       David Nebhut Is OCC Deputy Comptroller for Economics

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- David Nebhut was named today to head the
Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's Economics Department. 
As Deputy Comptroller for Economics, he will oversee the
department's four divisions (Bank Research, Economics and
Evaluation, Financial and Statistical Analysis, and Risk
Analysis).  The department has evolved in recent years into a
leading source for banking and financial research.
  
Mr. Nebhut was director of the department's Economics and
Evaluation Division, a position he held since 1991.  He guided
preparation of the Comptroller's congressional testimony,
provided support to fair lending examinations, and oversaw
studies of the economic implications of OCC regulations and
policies.  

Mr. Nebhut, who joined the OCC in 1980, replaces James D.
Kamihachi who was named Senior Deputy Comptroller for Economic
and Policy Analysis in September.  Mr. Nebhut received his
bachelor's degree in economics from Pennsylvania State University
in 1976 and completed his course work for a Ph.D. in economics at
Northwestern University.
