Robert M. Garsson

Robert M. Garsson, named Deputy Comptroller for Public Affairs in July 2004, provides public affairs advice to the Comptroller and senior
management in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and oversees the agency’s external and internal communications.
His responsibilities include supervising the Banking Relations, Congressional Liaison, Communications, and Press Relations divisions, as well as the
agency’s Web and electronic publishing, minority outreach, speechwriting, and internal communications activities. Mr. Garsson reports to the Chief of
Staff and Public Affairs.
Mr. Garsson was the OCC’s Director for Press Relations from 1997. Before joining the OCC, he was Director of Corporate Communications at the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Mr. Garsson’s professional experience also includes reporting for the newspaper, American Banker, where he also served as Washington, D.C., Bureau
Chief and Senior Editor.
An Army veteran, Mr. Garsson earned a bachelor of arts in history from the University of Virginia and a master of arts in political science from Rutgers
University.
