Counterfeit Cashier's Checks: Counterfeit Cashier’s Checks of Neffs National Bank, Neffs, Pennsylvania

To

Chief Executive Officers of All National Banks; All State Banking Authorities; Chairman, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; Chairman, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; Conference of State Bank Supervisors; Deputy Comptrollers (districts); Assistant Deputy Comptrollers; District Counsel, and All Examining Personnel

The above-named bank has reported that counterfeit cashier’s checks issued in the bank’s name are being used. To date, the checks have always shown the remitter as James Parris. The counterfeit checks are salmon in color with white marbling, and there is a thin reddish top border with security feature statements. The bank’s name is in a calligraphy style font in the upper left with a poor imitation logo and a bogus telephone number of 800-432-4271. The words “Cashier’s Check” appear on the top center in uppercase block letters. The ABA fraction appears as 83-347/421, the serial number is 9 digits, and the account number is 12 digits. There is no block for a dollar amount, and the word “Dollars” is missing after the imprinted monetary amount. There is no line for the date. The phrase “Authorized Signature / Issuer Accepts as Drawer/Drawee” appears under the signature line.

Authentic cashier’s checks issued by the bank are light blue in color with the bank name and logo appearing at the top center in block style font. There is no telephone number appearing on the check nor is there a payable through clause. The words “Cashier’s Check” appears in the lower left corner of the check. The correct ABA fraction is 60-1660/313, and the serial numbers are 6 digits. There is a block for a dollar amount and a line for the date. There is no phrase appearing under the signature line.
