Deputy Comptroller Northeastern District
Kristin Kiefer is the Deputy Comptroller for Northeastern District in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
In this role, Ms. Kiefer oversees more than 300 community banks and federal savings associations, 34 independent national trust companies, and 15 independent data service providers. She manages a staff of more than 350 bank examiners and other professional and support personnel located in the Northeastern District Office in New York City and in field offices in Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. She was appointed to this position in November 2014.
Prior to this position, Ms. Kiefer served as Associate Deputy Comptroller in the New York District Office, which followed her experience as Assistant Deputy Comptroller in the New York Metro Field Office supervising community banks and Data Servicers.
Ms. Kiefer joined the OCC as a field examiner in Minnesota in 1979 where she worked in community and regional banks in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas. She was commissioned a National Bank Examiner in 1984, and later transferred to San Francisco, where she worked in community and multinational banks. During her regulatory career, she has supervised troubled and failing institutions in the Western United States and has worked as Risk Analyst, working with bank examiners and economists to identify potential risks in banking and developing supervisory strategies to address those risks. She also served as the field manager of the New Jersey Field Office, supervising community banks located in central and northern New Jersey, and federal branches of foreign banks located in New York.
A native of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Ms. Kiefer earned a bachelor’s of science degree in finance from St. Cloud State University and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
